“I want to draw the viewer’s attention to something that may otherwise have gone unnoticed and to see things from a different angle.

My paintings tend to lean towards abstraction, using bold colours, lines and textures. I paint in both oil and acrylic, and sometimes incorporate mixed media. I am fascinated with painting macro images of nature and wildlife. I magnify the details of the beauty that lies in the simplest subjects. Frogs are one of my favorite subject matters, and I often showcase their natural beauty.

I have used a wide range of sculptural processes including bronze, wood, clay and found objects. My installation pieces are interactive and rely on audience participation. My sculptural and installation pieces are drawn from my own personal experiences, memories and interactions with my surroundings.

I want viewers to really pay attention to what surrounds them, look around, take a closer look and beware, so they don’t miss something important.”

BIO

Rachel Stableford studied Visual Art at York University, specializing in painting and sculpture. Stableford is both an artist and educator. She has shown in galleries across Ontario including; Propeller Art Gallery, Akasa Gallery and Arthur Haberman Gallery in Toronto as well as Gallery Stratford in Stratford. In addition, her work can be found in private and commercial collections across Canada. She has taught visual art to students of all ages for the last fifteen years in a variety of media including; drawing, painting and sculpture. Stableford plans to continue managing innovative art programming in the arts and culture sector, while maintaining her private art practice.
